We’re excited that you’re considering North Houston Children’s Choir for your child. The audition process is designed to be simple, welcoming, and informative, allowing us to understand each student’s voice and musical potential.
Who Should Audition
We welcome students who:
- Are in grades 3–7
- Love to sing and are eager to grow
- Are ready to participate in a structured musical environment
- Are excited to perform and collaborate with others
No prior formal training is required.

How to Audition
Step-by-Step Audition Process
Follow the steps below to guide your child through the audition process with North Houston Children’s Choir.
Step 1: Submit the Registration Form
Begin by completing the audition registration form.
Once submitted, you will receive confirmation along with any next steps and scheduling details.
Step 2: Prepare for the Audition
Students will be asked to prepare a short, simple song that showcases their voice.
Audition Music:
Additional preparation may include:
- Basic vocal exercises
- Pitch matching
- Simple musical patterns
The goal of the audition is not perfection, but to assess each student’s current ability, musical ear, and potential.
Step 3: Attend the Audition
Auditions are held in a supportive and encouraging environment. Students will meet with the director(s) and be guided through a short evaluation.

Parents may be asked to wait outside during the audition to allow students to feel comfortable and focused.
Step 4: Placement & Next Steps
Following the audition, families will receive communication regarding:
- Ensemble placement (if applicable)
- Program details
- Next steps for enrollment
Our goal is to place each student in an environment where they can grow, succeed, and enjoy the experience.
Rehearsal Commitment
Students who are accepted into NHCC are expected to attend weekly rehearsals and participate in scheduled performances.
Rehearsals:
Mondays, 5:30–7:30 PM
Beginning September 15 and continuing throughout the school year

What to Expect at the Audition
To help your child feel prepared, auditions are:
- Short and structured

Do I need to schedule an audition time?
Yes. After completing the initial registration, you will receive a SignUpGenius link to select your preferred audition time once your registration has been reviewed.
What should my child wear?
Students should wear something comfortable and appropriate. We recommend wearing typical school attire.
Do we need an accompanist?
No. Auditions are conducted a cappella, so an accompanist is not required.
How long does the audition take?
Each audition typically lasts between 20 and 30 minutes.
When will we hear back?
You can expect to receive results within 2–3 days after the audition.
